Ballet & Contemporary
BALLET
The basis of every dancer is ballet training. Provides a sound grounding in posture, strength, flexibility and technique. Any dancer who wishes to excel in dance must take Ballet classes. Students are taught barre work, centre work, strengthening and turns.
CONTEMPORARY/LYRICAL
Contemporary is based on the technical aspects of Classical ballet & Jazz dance. Contemporary dance principles include: centering, alignment, gravity, breath, contraction, release, fall & recovery, suspension, balance & off-balance, tension & relaxation, opposition & emotion. Lyrical dance is closely related to classical ballet; however routines are more expressive normally choreographed to a ballad or slow song. Lyrical dance requires strength, technique, musicality & imagination. It is a passionate, expressive dance style in which the dancer conveys & interprets the story & emotions of the music.

Ballet Jnr Saturday 12.30 - 1.15pm
Ballet Int Tuesday 5.15 - 6.15pm, Saturday 3.15 - 4.00pm
Ballet Extension for Int Wednesday 5.00 - 5.45pm
Ballet Snr Wednesday 5.45 - 6.45pm
Pointe Wednesday 6.45 - 7.15pm

Contemporary Snr (14 + yrs) Wednesday 7.15 - 8.00pm (Meg)

TINI Classes
- Own leotard or Fairy Dress
- Pink Ballet Shoes with Elastics
- Hair in a neat bun
All Ballet Classes (except Tini)
GIRLS:
- MSJ Hot Pink/Black Leotards
- Pink Ballet Tights (convertible style if doing lyrical/contemporary)
- Pink Ballet Shoes with Elastics
- Hair in a neat bun (fringe allowed but no wispy bits)
- No shorts/skirt/pants to be worn over leotard
- Fitted black crossover/wrap may be worn during the winter months for warm ups only
BOYS:
- Black or white singlet top
- Black shorts or Black ballet tights (preferred)
- Black ballet shoes
In addition to this students in Pointe Class require pointe shoes (professionally fitted), students in Ballet Int/Extension require demi pointe shoes.

- As for ballet except bare foot (in most cases msj shorts may be worn)
